Started by the National Committee on Pay Equity in 1996, the goal of Equal Pay Day is to raise awareness about the gender wage gap. It signifies the number of days that women have to work into the next year to equal the wages earned by men at the end of the prior year. While March 12 was designated as Equal Pay Day for all women in the US, Latina Equal Pay Day was October 3 and Indigenous/Native Women's Equal Pay Day is November 21.
Campus representatives from the SLO Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will be tabling on Mustang Way from 11 am - 1 pm on Tuesday, October 15 to provide information about the pay gender gap and about other equity issues relevant to this year's elections. Cal Poly is a College/University Member of AAUW, and ALL students are eligible for a free online student membership. Faculty and staff can also find out about AAUW membership opportunities. Come learn more!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact: Debra Valencia-Laver (dlvalenc@calpoly.edu), Cal Poly Professor Emerita and AAUW SLO Branch President & Liaison to Cal Poly.
