Dr. Wilson Okello, an educator, poet, storyteller, mentor and social justice activist, will deliver the keynote address for a Black History Month event hosted by The Men and Masculinities Program and The Black Academic Excellence Center from 5-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9 on Zoom. Register to attend the event here. He will discuss how an anti-heteronormative love ethic anchored in Black feminism can serve as a liberating tool among men. Employing a Black feminist love praxis, he will explore possibilities of love as a relational and revolutionary interruption of the white supremacist, capitalist, cis-patriarchal modes of being that dominate the persistence of Black men in and beyond academe. Okello, an assistant professor of higher education at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, is an interdisciplinary scholar who draws on theories of Blackness and Black feminist theories to think about knowledge production and student/early adult development.
