Started by the National Committee on Pay Equity in 1996, the goal of Equal Pay Day is to raise awareness about the gender wage gap. It signifies the number of days that women have to work into the next year to equal the wages earned by men at the end of the prior year. Equal Pay Day 2023 marks the current state of the gender pay gap: 84% for full-time workers and 77% for all workers (including part-time and seasonal). Campus representatives of the American Association of University Women will be in the UU Plaza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, to provide information about the pay gender gap, including how the pay gap varies among different communities, particularly for women of color.
