The San Luis Obispo Out of the Darkness Community Walk — an event to heighten awareness about suicide, the 12th leading cause of death in the U.S. — will be held on on Saturday, April 29, starting from the University Union Plaza. Check-in begins at 10 a.m. with the walk to follow at 11 a.m. The annual event supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s education, research and survivor support programs. In addition to raising awareness and funds to prevent suicide, the walk gives attendees a chance to connect with others and know they are not alone, whether they walk in memory or in support of a loved one, or in honor of their own mental health journey. The event is hosted by the Greater Los Angeles and Central Coast Chapter of AFSP. To register yourself or as a team, visit afsp.org/SLO.
