Started by the National Committee on Pay Equity in 1996, the goal of Equal Pay Day is to raise awareness about the gender wage gap. It signifies the number of days that women have to work into the next year to equal the wages men earn at the end of the prior year. Equal Pay Day 2024 marks the current state of the gender pay gap: 84% for full-time workers and 78% for all workers (including part-time and seasonal).

Campus representatives from the SLO Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will be in the UU Plaza from 11 am - 1 pm on Wednesday, April 10 to provide information about the pay gender gap, including how the pay gap varies among different communities, particularly for women of color. Cal Poly is a College/University Member of AAUW, and ALL students are eligible for a free online student membership. Faculty and staff can also learn about AAUW membership opportunities. Come learn more!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Debra Valencia-Laver (dlvalenc@calpoly.edu), Cal Poly Professor Emerita and AAUW SLO Branch President & Liaison to Cal Poly.
